Bad choices of those on SNAP…

    1. Joined military to serve my country and this is how they treat me!
    2. Worked for government, got DOGE’d, and no one is hiring!
    3. Picked the wrong birth parents and at 6 no one will hire me!
    4. Lost job over 50 and those kids won’t hire me!
    5. Lost job to AI and I went to Standford!
    6. Pro-life and kept my baby! 7)…fill in the blank

I was just arguing with my mom about this and she said it’s good people are losing the benefits because she knows people don’t need SNAP, despite needing them herself.

She then went on to name a few people who receive $800 for their 5 kids and simply sell the card to someone else to get cash for drugs and ask me how to solve that problem.

Reporting the abuse it wasn’t an option.

That problem is easy to solve. Just stop telling that lie, because that’s the only way that situation exists. It’s a complete MAGA fantasy.

And if your mother gets SNAP, and is happy it’s gone, remember that about three weeks from now, when she’s begging you to buy her groceries. If you buy her anything, make it a big pack of ramen, and a couple of tins of sardines.

perhaps worth pointing out too… focusing on the minimal abuse as a reason the whole program should be cut is very american. i think the rest of the world the attitude is much more that a thing is necessary and abuse is a cost of doing business (like shoplifting: just because there’s some shoplifting doesn’t mean you close the whole store)… it’s very much nobody “undeserving” should get rewarded before people need help

I have a business that was fully shut down for the pandemic quarantine, and I applied for PPP numerous times, and got turned down for a different reason every time. If the PPP wasn’t meant for businesses like mine, who were directly closed because of the quarantine, than who was it intended for?

Then I realized - It was a MAGA program, of course it was a scam. It wasn’t meant for me, I’m an honest, ethical business owner.

had to search for that :p yeah aye - we had the same in aus (called jobkeeper)… our conservatives introduced it, and it was hugely successful at keeping people employed but also massively abused by big companies

          https://www.thenewdaily.com.au/finance/finance-news/2021/09/03/jobkeeper-rorts

i think this quote pretty accurately describes it

JobKeeper is both the largest rort in Australian history and the most successful job saver

overall there were some reports written about it after the fact: lessons learned etc, but i think people don’t really blame the conservatives for the abuse… it was a programme that was quickly conceived of, and implemented very fast and it achieved a very important purpose. was it wasteful? sure… was it or something like it necessary? also very much yes

Yeah that sounds about like the line of reasoning I’d expect from conservatives in my family. The problem is that you gave them something at all. They made you a sucker. Stop helping people. etc.

They’d just terminate the thought there, and not move on to wonder if it could it be some other problem the system could help them with other than today’s cart of groceries. My goodness, they might accidentally save a life and not even know it!

GOP strategist tells Americans about to lose food assistance to make ‘better choices’

Yeah, but you often find the people who need the help are least inclined to vote for it.

I remember a story from a few years ago, some article about poverty. A disabled guy from Liverpool, unable to work, his 12 year old daughter was having to collect from the food bank for him, no heating. “I voted for the Conservatives, I just think they’re best for the country”, he said, presumably while applying his clown make-up.

‘ years later, shifted to the Republican Party and to becoming a strong supporter of Trump.’

Lindy Li was a part of Harris’s campaign. Within the time period of them losing the election -> the inauguration she was already a part of Trumps team.

She has zero credibility and is just a token former Democrat for the GOP to parade around. Disgusting.

I mean, that’s a very good demonstration on the common values of these supposedly different groups. Their class solidarity is strong.

No, it’s a good demonstration on their common lack of values. They have no class solidarity and will turn on anyone who has helped them in the past if they think they’ll get ahead.

Dude, you can’t be satisfied by bites of moral superiority, it isn’t useful to you. Class solidarity doesn’t mean that they have solidarity with you because they strive for unity or whatever, it means that they have solidarity with people in the same socioeconomic class as themselves. Yes, they are self-interested and they exclude people who are not in their class from positions of power within the state. They correctly identify that most Americans have been neglected functional knowledge on how their system works – both literally as in the state and philosophically/sociologically as in how ideas work and why certain people subscribe to certain values – and make use of a “two-party” system to occlude their common interest in capital and hegemony. Democrats and Republicans do not differ on fundamental principles of how society should work, and they share those principles with anyone alive who hoards wealth because they all are in a class that is constructed through wealth hoarding, that’s the solidarity.

That someone can work for either party without missing a step demonstrates that there is not a fundamental difference between the two in a very funny way.
