Linux bros will absolutely support your stuff just for the sake of it, but we are not going to attend all of your events you don’t have time for while you’re being paid and we’re not. You think a dev/community manager isn’t worth paying, but the people who assemble things are? Way to devalue your core audience I.e. the people who value the principles your selling.
This needs to be a role that’s compensated. No one should have these responsibilities and work for free.
The devs are doing some damage control in the comments. But to be fair, they very clearly say that you won’t be paid, so you can’t say you have been led astray by dubious marketing.
To be even fairer, if they want marketing people they can pay them.
