  • I was doing the latest raid series with some friends this weekend who were catching up with the content, and they didn’t know the fights.

The first battle has new mechanics, and some people died to them. There was one guy who piped up, “This has been out for two years! How are people still dying to [mechanic]???” We beat the boss so it didn’t matter, but several people chimed in to say “hey, there are some new people here; it’s new to them.” Everyone was defending the people who died.

THEN, oh boy, this guy - would you believe it - DIED in the next fight. And the crowd then… oooo did we make fun of that guy.

What I’m getting at is that one guy out of 24 tried to be a bit of a jerk, but then everyone else was like, “No. That’s not this game, bro.” It’s a community. It’s great.

At the end of the raid when we were all waiting on rolls for items, someone disconnected. “Hey, [another player] DC’d. That’s why the rolls are taking long.” Everyone was like, “no worries.” I said, “That’s fine. DC is better than Marvel right now anyway…” and then the group got to talking about movies and super heroes for a couple of minutes while we all waited for this one person to restart the game.

    WoW could never.

  • One of my bosses has been a little Ai-pilled recently and he also contributes code.

I can tell which parts are his AI slop not from any git blame or anything but because of how it looks. You can see the stylistic differences in a block of code from one file to the next, and also it seems like AI likes to add comments to everything, and he just copy and pastes it all into the file. Those comments are often very different looking, too. So just stylistically everything is all over the place.

  • Oh yeah, good call.

That’s good to hear about the /kick. The last time I saw someone get kicked was years ago during a Prae run (back when it was still an 8-man) where the person was not actively helping do the activity. They’d just stood around while everyone else did the work. And then they had the audacity to say to US that it was OK because Prae was easy now so they didn’t need his help anyway. While true, you don’t get tomes for free, bro, and after a couple of bosses we kicked him out.

For OP: Yeah, Sprouts designate someone as a newer player so everyone knows they may be seeing or doing some stuff for the first time.

  • Like the other replies have said, it’s now very solo friendly. You might have to party up here or there, but for the most part the MSQ (Main Story Quests) now offer a path to bring in NPC characters to help you through dungeons and the like. So if you are just in it for the story and simply don’t want to play with people, then you can do pretty much all of that solo.

HOWEVER, this is not a community like WoW where it’s toxic as hell. Everyone gets extra rewards if they play a dungeon with someone who has never done it before so it’s actually nice to have a newbie in your party, and generally people are super chill if you say “hey, it’s my first time” when going into a group activity.
