Every single time someone posts some random Tik Tok or Youtube short style video on Reddit… My blood instantly boils.

I don’t even know how to describe it, everything from the Editing, the stupid a*** click bait thumbnail, their tone… Literally all of it is just diarrhea of the mind 😣

Why is this s**** so popular? And kids are growing up watching this trash for 8 hours a day? The hell does that do to someone’s personality? Their psychological health?

How do ADULTS watch that crap non stop. How are they not embarrassed?

You can’t say the fuck word here, this is a CHRISTIAN lemmy server

Fr though I don’t get how adults don’t get embarrassed when they censor their own curse words. Either say the fucken word or pick another word; asterisks are for wimps and children

This is your contribution? How about you respond to the question instead of being a soyboy that he chose not to curse. Maybe he is considering not everyone is an adult on the platform. Maybe he wants to stop cursing and is phasing it out of his life through small efforts. Imagine calling someone a wimp for not cursing but you get triggered and emotionally outraged like a LITTLE PUSSY removed that they don’t. Wouldn’t you be the wimp?

But they DID curse. Did those asterisks magically remove all meaning from those words, or were you still perfectly able to understand their meaning? If it’s the latter, then the asterisks accomplished nothing.

If they truly wanted to avoid cursing, those words wouldn’t be there at all. Self-censoring like they did is what needs to be done on some platforms to still curse, but bypass content filters. That isn’t necessary here, so it’s just performative. If you’re going to curse, just fucking do it.

I’ve never saw someone triggered over cursing or not cursing or asterisk. Take for example a redact; a black bar over a nude person on TV. Sure you know what it’s covering but it still adds some decency to the scene. Your imagination can fill in the blanks but you will never see what’s under the bar directly. We’d be better off if we didn’t curse honestly. It takes effort to restrain oneself, real power.

Does it really add decency??? One of my favourite shows, Arrested Development, uses bleeps over swear words as pure comedy; the black bars are similar to me, they draw attention to the oddity rather than just call it what it is.

Nudity in general is fuckin silly, people should know about their bodies, everyone knows what a naked human looks like from looking at themselves, censoring non-pornographic nudity is stupid and only serves to intrigue and create mystique where it should simply inform and demystify.

Yes, we have a lot of wonderful adjectives in English. Swear, and be profane, for fun and profit. If you don’t want to use The Vulgar Tongue, then lean on the lexicon.

The black bar really adds no decency, it’s performative and viewed by many as a form of hypocrisy.

Since this is a textual medium run with adult behavioural standards, the rule that infantilizes profanity with absurd fucking censorship is cringeworthy and likely to be mocked or pilloried.

While I agree with everything else you said, I would like to specifically respond to the following part:

Maybe he is considering not everyone is an adult on the platform.

God forbid a child hears the words “shit”, “ass”, or “fuck”. 1) That’s not the end of the world, no matter what conservative parents groups would like people to think, and 2) I guarantee you that 99.999% of children have heard at least 2 out of 3 of those words from television, movies, and elsewhere on the Internet. It’s a word, nothing more, and not that big of a deal.

Again, though, I would like to repeat that I agree with what else you said. I just wanted to respond to this particular part.

        Have a great day!

Words are words. So don’t complain if they are or aren’t used I suppose and focus on the actual topic that was posted
