On many modern ranges it is literally described as a simmer burner.

It’s even more natural to handle when you have arms long enough, plus the angle of the handle doesn’t make it dangle.

What? I always default to the back ones since the splatter won’t reach my clothes as easily from there

I also use the back ones since it is low likely that I’ll hit a handle and have hot food flying about.

Making Aprons is easier than adding as many pockets to everything.

Might come back as we get out of gambler-designed slave-made garment supply chain.

I take the same approach to software development. Why waste time debugging when you can simply not write any bugs in the first place? Mystified how nobody else ever thought of this before.

I mean if you replace “not write bugs” with “write tests”, this becomes a good metaphor

I mean yeah it is an option but wearing special clothes for the splashes doesn’t seem as necessary when you can just do a simple thing to avoid the splashes

I’m with the others here, back left is great for just getting some shit boiling out of the way, or simmering for a while. Back right is the tiny useless little fucker that gets no play until Thanksgiving.

Yeah. Back left is the only burned in the right size for my pasta pot. Back right is a copy of front left and thus uniquely useless.

Is this an American thing? On my gas stove, the front left is rapid boil, front right is simmer, and the back two are normal.

The size should be appropriate for the vessel. Things in the front require constant attention while the rear takes care of itself.
