David McGuinty stumbled into the defence minister job just by staying alive and continuing to win his riding long enough. He had no expertise on the defence file and is a pure political operator - he is just towing the line because fundamentally he’s just happy to be there.

Unfortunately is he minister of defence and his statements do matter to some extent, but it’s worth remembering the context here.
