Upvote the film you’d like to watch the most in the comments below!

Nominations are in for August’s Fedi Film Club - Fringe Threatre (see nominations post here).

This was a bit of an experiment and it was very cool to see all of these suggestions! Plenty of films I don’t know anything about!

Given that fringe (or arthouse or whatever) films have a different feel and aren’t as conducive to a popularity vote and an online live watch session, I say we play this by ear. At the least I’m happy to treat this as a running list of recommendations which those of us that are interested can work through, discussing as we go, and at the most we work through it together with a live watch session.

Either way … please vote if you like and share any thoughts or further suggestions you have about these films.

Each one in is a separate comment below, which you can upvote.

And, for clarity, they’re also in the list below, in alphabetical order.

If you have any handy tips on the best way to get a hold of any of these, please share! Note though that the high seas in general are likely are well known option.

And of course, the main point of all this is to crowd-source human curated film recommendations. I’ll definitely want to watch more than one of these and encourage the same!

EDIT: As for watching together at the end of the month:

  • If anyone is up to setting up one of those online live watch things … please feel free to run it and we’ll promote it here.
  • Otherwise, I’ll keep going with what I tried last month: Live discussion threads in three different timezones scheduled for a weekend watch, or any other time people would find more convenient … where you can start the film yourself at home, at the scheduled time and engage in live-discussion in the thread.

    Meet the Feebles (wikipedia)

Released in 1989, this is an early-ish Peter Jackson movie (yes, the LOTR guy).

It’s a lurid and disturbing backstage comedy of a troupe similar to The Muppet Show.

I watched it with one friend in the mid 90s who, when it ended, stood, turned to me, and said “It is possible to go too far” before leaving the room.

    Lost Highway (1997) wikipedia

A David Lynch film. I’ve not seen his 90s films but always meant to. After hearing of his illness, I figure now is as good a time as any

    La Grande Bouffe (1973) wikipedia

The film tells the story of four friends who gather in a villa for the weekend, with the express purpose of eating themselves to death.

    The Cremaster Cycle (wikipedia)

This is probably as pretentiously art house as you can get … I’ve never seen it but always meant to. It’s probably hard to get a hold of … but I’m putting it here anyway

    Hermit: Monster Killer (2016) IMDB

A hilarious monster flick made on Sweden. With incredible special effects and a great performance by Borje Lundberg.

It’s in Swedish, so you need to find the subtitles in English.

    Johnny got his gun.

Haven’t watched it in years but it’s a classic everyone should watch, absolutely gut wrenching. Some of it was later used in a Metallica music video bringing it back to notoriety somewhat.
