I think official instances should be fairly small, no? They shouldn’t allow users from outside Mozilla onto their instance. The point is that they federate and can interact with a wider audience from an official source.

You didn’t mention: caring for elderly parents, getting out of an abusive relationship, working two jobs, having a disabled kid, having a chronic illness, being in a legal fight with a neighbour, the list goes on. How many hours a week does one of those take? What if you have two?

Agreed. I would also reconsider ditching the ISP router. You can still connect your gateway to it, and having the ISP device on premises can mean they might not blame your equipment for a line issue.
It will give me hope if this flops, because maybe then the reason people stay with Twitter is the network effect, and not anything actually to do with its rancid owner.
