You brought up specifically HD. I’m willing to watch ads so that YT can continue delivering even lower quality videos as long as those ads don’t interrupt the video.

So hide the HD stuff behind a paywall. I’m perfectly happy at 720p for the VAST majority of videos. Might even agree to go lower if it means I can watch it without ad breaks.

I like that too and I don’t understand why people are so very fundamentally against having stuff recommended to them based on what they’re already following.

They’re seeing things in themselves that are different from (what they correctly or mistakenly perceive as) the “norm”. Since most NDs have experienced being scolded, ridiculed, shamed, ostracised for being “different”, some over and over again, for all their life, they’ve internalised that the “weird” thing is their fault, that there’s something inherently wrong with them. Recontextualising a (new) “weird” thing as a consequence of their neurodivergence makes it not their fault or at least lessens the feeling of “wrong”. … I keep saying “they” as if I don’t catch myself doing it.

What? The original argument was “Just because it exists doesn’t make it good.”, implying that it (click-bait thumbnails) doesn’t necessarily work. To which I said that the fact that it exists means it works. To which you seemed to object by saying that there may be people who have an interest in it existing - like they want it to exist despite it actually not working. I’m confused about what it is you’re saying.

What “interest” would they have to keep it that way if it wasn’t working?

Wealth inequality exists because it works for the people who have the power to control it. In a way, it’s not harmful ENOUGH to change evolutionarily.

Nobody said “good”, but if it keeps existing, it works or at least isn’t harmful. Bit like evolution.
