I never implied that therapy is a shameful pursuit. And yeah, people have the right to do any legal activity in their private life, but—to take your m&ms analogy a step further—if you knew a guy was shoving a glass jar up his ass, don’t you think we should try to help him find safer ways of seeking pleasure, especially now that we’re armed with the knowledge that another guy posted his gruesome experience doing the same thing years ago?

My point is that if I was unknowingly on a slippery slope I would hope people would feel a sense of humanly duty to intervene. Or at the very least have a conversation about it.

We shouldn’t judge them for getting to this point, but we also shouldn’t just leave them be. People like the one in the screenshot are clearly in need of therapy.

We already saw the story of the guy who poisoned himself with sodium bromide at the “advice” of chatgpt. What kind of outward damage could someone who confides in a chatbot be capable of?

  • Just gonna pitch in here, but I’m no expert. I was reading people’s reactions when that TLD was introduced, and they raised concerns over the possibility that a bad actor could spoof an address that actually downloads a .zip file to your device when you click the link, even though you may assume it’s an address to a page. No idea what a hypothetical virus could do from a compressed environment, but thats what I remember reading.

Sorry to any experts if I’m muddying the waters with a dumb take!

Thanks for the info! I’m aware of JDAM from following the invasion of Ukraine, but I wasn’t aware of the whole arming process.

Now, I may be underestimating my ignorance, but that doesn’t look like JDAM to me. Seems a bit small. Also, the fact that the pilot suddenly looks toward the wing tells me that he was expecting it to shoot out in front, and only felt the mechanical release (or do they use small explosive bolts? I’m more versed in spaceflight so that’s my only other guess 😅) and saw no visual confirmation that it fired.

Edit, just saw your edit! It’s a gbu-12 I guess

  • I felt like I was alone in being frustrated at this trend. However I found a bit of relief to discover, through messing around in a Win98 virtual machine, that they were occasionally using the term “app” back then as well. Of course it wasn’t as ubiquitous as it is now, but whatever.

Also I thought I’d never see the Xbox kid meme again. What an unexpected throwback!
