Exactly! They are the absolute worst on long flights. I can manage the limited leg room. But why the fuck does my head need to be pushed 2 inches ahead of my back and shoulders? And why can’t those flaps on the side of the head rest be more substantial so you can rest your head to either side at least? My strategy has been to lift the headrest as high as it will go, and usually I am short enough for it to clear my head so I can have some semblance of comfort.

This reminds me of the children’s book Corduroy about a stuffed animal that gets left on the shelf because his overalls are missing a button. I blame that book for my irrational dedication to inanimate objects.

I would agree change is hard. And I believe change is inevitable. But is all of it really necessary?

We are self-aware beings that can evaluate what technology has done and is going to do to individuals and society at large. Metrics for attention span, reading comprehension, social connection, and many more things are trending in damgerous directions already. Some change is not necessary and is objectively doing more harm than good.

I forgot to add a /s after that sentence. I know teachers are severely understaffed and underfunded. This 4 day workweek seems like it would be wonderful with the exception of the people deemed too vital not to work. Just like during covid, some people will have a better time being paid to stay home, and others will have to continue working for the same pay. The burden would certainly fall on teachers, doctors, nurses, construction workers, maintenance personnel, and any other job that has a short supply of workers and high demand. Before switching to this system, our society would need to consider how to handle this problem.

Ok, I wasn’t considering a rotation where the workplace would be partially staffed Mondays and Fridays. That makes a lot of sense. I was imagining everyone having off Saturday-Mondthatn a more universal weekend, which I think would not be practical for getting things accomplished. In that case I see what you mean about Mondays.
