That’s basically how I remember it too. He had this whole line of reasoning for why he shouldn’t fear death and why nobody should be mourning him or sad about it, but I still have a hard time imaging that he was 100% convinced. By all accounts, he was, but man. Legend is right.

I read a collection of Plato’s works many years ago, and this might have been part of it. I remember reading his account of Socrates’ final days and death. I’ve always wondered if Socrates really believed what he was saying about not fearing the end.

Ha, well the short answer is that my kids are young, and my career is in a flexible field where I’ve been able to take time to stay home with them until they’re in school.
