so tired of people recommending thinkpads when there are much better options. the fact the control and alt key were swapped for years is enough to never get ibm or Lenovo.

I’d check local places like offerup. can get business laptops for cheap when places refresh. there are a few people around me selling 3-4 year old dells with i5/i7, nvme, etc. take a Linux USB and install it on site before you buy to test. they’re more than enough specwise for daily use or testing. often sub $300
Lazy for not wanting to have 6 different accounts and launchers? Nah. It’s easier to just get a pirated version than trying to remember which service you bought what on.
Convenience, the whole reason piracy took a backseat for a few years. Inconvenient? Hit the seas.
oh god, the difference between some of my old rips at 128 and 320 is damn near night and day. i though the song just sucked, but the quality was just shit. also found a track that got corrupt, but still played, but at 1/10th the speed, it was about 30 minutes long, but normally only 3 lol. just stretched the fuck out of it.
yeah, i’ve thought about it. but it’s cathartic to find music/movies, download and organize them, choose artwork in Plex, things like that. I’ve got them all organized in media monkey.
I use OnTheSpot downloader to grab albums from spotify at 320kbps - https://github.com/casualsnek/onthespot
Use Soulseek (nicotine+) to grab more obscure stuff. Can get everything on there, just sometimes slower and not as reliable as a torrent.
I use these sites for movies, in order of convenience:
https://ytssss.jamsbase.com/ (basically just YTS)
https://www.magnetdl.com/ (search sucks, but if you get used to it, it has huge libraries of TV series)
https://en.torrentgalaxy-official.site/
https://psa.wf/ (PSA RIPS)
I don’t really download apps anymore, so malware really isn’t an issue, but make sure you’re using UBlockOrigin plugin and a VPN like TorGuard
Just upgraded my truenas and plex to 8tb drives. 1600+ movies, 60+ TV series, 40,000 songs. I seed as much as I can, have uploaded over 5TB this month alone. Come get some.
What phone? Never had an issue with private DNS on Android. Unfortunately IOS requires it setup on every connection, but works.
https://adguard-dns.io/en/public-dns.html
https://youtu.be/ovqRt_qGV7c?si=iMxKS_tMMyKJV6ie
Make sure you restart the app after applying settings, should pickup new DNS and poof, 95% of ads are gone instantly.
DNS adblocking. I don’t see those ads.
It’s only list! Just got it
Using it til it dies. Love this phone.

5 years… do you have the S9? cause im exactly the same, never intentionally used it. ever.
Like the shitty bixby button on phones.
if you’ve got a kid old enough to be using a phone, but not old enough to know about sex, and you haven’t enabled parental controls, you have other things to worry about. or they’re old enough to look at whatever they please.
sure, but it’s not going to curb the curiosity 100%. and it’s not just sex sites, kids don’t need to see sites like crazyshit.com, etc until they’re at least mature enough.
Most routers have parental controls. Web sites have categories, and you can explicitly block those categories. You can use 3rd party dns tools like nextdns for granular control. Lots of parental software you can install that can limit PC time use, sites, tracking, etc. you can blacklist sites too. Lots of control and access levels so you don’t block yourself too.
Lolwut? So if my parents didn’t do something for me, the state needs to pick us the slack? No. It’s porn man, not jihad.
with ublock origin plugin, it’s amazing
