Don’t be pessimistic. Look up Martin Sonneborn, MEP. He got voted into the EU parliament in 2015 with his purely satirical party “Die PARTEI” and is still there, because he does a comparatively good job. While still being satirical.

I’ve got a coworker who still attends something one could call programming school. They use AI extensively. I am not sure if I could trust him to complete a project in a way that would leave it maintainable. Of that he could maintain it.

That was exactly the point. Although I’d be happy if they’d just geoblock the EU. Or die off already.

I set my hopes on Count Binface. Although if he actually wins, he will face an interesting challenge in parliament. As far I remember, hats (and probably helmets, too) are not allowed in the House.

I was there when the “Neural Networks” idea started. They thought they could program NNs to achieve AGI. Now they think they can do it with LLMs. But LLMs are just parrots with a large dictionary. They won’t reach that point, either. An LLM is way too much rooted in words to be able to think.

It will be a race which AI company holds out longest. All of them are making losses that no company can survive, and if they rise their prices enough to cover the costs, they will basically lose all their customers. Who will then struggle to hire the people back who still know how to do things without AI.

They probably attack anyone daring not to speak French with a ferocity straight out of hell.
