There’s a lot of horror franchises that shouldn’t’ve been more than a single film. Off the top of my head: Hellraiser, Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, Blair Witch, and Black Christmas.

Only Fools and Horses shoulda ended on the episode where they finally strike it rich. None of the episodes after that justify bringing it back.

The bluestones in Stonehenge come from West Wales. Instead of quarrying stone from near the monument, they dragged these huge blocks from ~278km away. Likewise, the altar stone comes from ~700km away in North-East Scotland. It must’ve been very important for the ancient Britons to’ve used these specific rocks for some reason, but their religious practices were conveyed via a now extinct oral tradition so no-one knows exactly why they did it.

I don’t think picking an arbitrary time of, like, 9 years ago is accurate for when the western left’s “idpol turn” started. Labour rights and anti racism have always been closely intertwined causes and the trade unions have been closely aligned with queer groups since the 80’s at least.

But whatever.

What has that accomplished?

Created a more organised front against the current reactionary pushes and helped getting marginalised people politically active despite the neoliberal attempt to crush grassroots political activism.

Who has it helped?

Plenty of people, myself for example: leftist agitation caused both a reform within the Welsh NHS’ gender service to move away from antiquated gatekeeping and towards self-id and informed consent, while at the same time these same groups successfully pushed the Senedd to bring out free prescriptions. My poor, post-grad self wouldn’t have had the time to fight to get a gender identity certificate nor the money to afford HRT treatment if it wasn’t for the intersectional tactics of the “western left”.

It’s an attempt by Meta to swallow the fediverse via Microsoft’s old “embrace, extend, extinguish” strategy.

Huge problem imho, is that a lot of these people who rattle on about voting for harm reduction candidates go home after voting on election day and then don’t get involved politically until the next election cycle.

In these bourgeois “democracies” political parties are always going to move to court wealthy donors and thus shift right wing. If you lot over in America can’t mobilise enough people out in the street to fight for these causes, to grind your country to a screaming halt if needs be, then the Dems will be where labour is soon. Maybe not this election, but check back in with this comment by the midterms.
