I don’t think it’s actually been rolled out to the app yet. When I load up the app, I see the old voice feature, not the new mode.
I love this wild west phase of the Fediverse! Feels like the good ole days of the Internet. Onwards!

Added .webm support to the image viewer and image peek
This, along with the other image viewer fixes is a massive quality of life upgrade! 🙌
That is actually an excellent point! I’m imagining a Lydia from Skyrim who would actually comment on your actual quest progression without just resorting to canned responses.
While I’m sure there will be a lot of false starts with this tech and it will take a while to iron out the kinks, I’ve been waiting for something like this for a long time. This will probably be similar to the switch from small, limited world maps in games to expansive open-worlds. It’s going to be a massive boost to immersion and will probably lead to some hilarious bugs/unexpected behaviours. Can’t wait!
Also, Google is a (the?) major source of funding for Mozilla, so they have a lot of clout with them.
Honestly, this is part of a broader trend of enshittification sweeping the Internet these days. It’s not just spez, it’s any SV bro from the current crop of technology companies. I think this is a lesson worth remembering for all of us who took the freedom and magic of the Internet for granted.
They’ve only released the weaker version, Gemini Pro, which is integrated into Bard. It’s performance is comparable to GPT 3.5. the stronger version, which will go toe-to-toe with GPT4 will be Gemini Ultra, and will be released sometime in 2024.
Very impressive! Apparently the slightly weaker version is bring released today in Bard, which is still not available in freaking Canada.
The more powerful version which claims to beat GPT4 at MMLU comes out next year.
What environment are you referring to? Netflix certainly doesn’t control Lemmy or the broader Internet.
driver of the lead car
I don’t know if this characterization is true. From all that I’ve read Ilya Sutskever was always the star and most important asset of OpenAI. Altman seemed like the SV money guy. Money should no longer continue to be as big of a problem for OpenAI, although the coup will definitely have spooked investors.
Edit: personally, I’ll add that Altman gives me major ick vibes, similar to Musk, although I can’t fully justify them. His WorldCoin scammy project convinced me that he was not the person who should be in charge of potentially in charge of advancing is towards AI.
Ilya and Denis Hassabis are more the kind of scientists with the mettle that I would trust more with the responsibility of stewarding proto AGI into existence. They both seem to understand the magnitude of what they are creating.
Yeah, just realized that. On first read I thought he was just helping with the transition, but this seems more like he’s been kicked off the board too, although is still employed (for now).
Very interesting indeed, given that Ilya Sutskever and Greg Brockman are in the board.
Clicking on a post in the post feed makes it show up overlayed on top of the feed similar to alexandrite’s system instead of sending you to a new page. (hitting the name of the post when in this preview state will send you to the actual page)
This is by far my favorite Alexandrite feature, and the main reason I use it over the alternatives. Thanks for including it!
As OP now mentioned, they have still the button navigation, so the swipe navigation probably should not be activated for them.
That’s precisely the problem. OP and I have the same setup, and Sync is incorrectly responding to the swipe.
When I swipe up slowly, I see all open apps. When I do it fast, I come back to the home screen.
This doesn’t seem related to what’s being discussed here, that’s the Android task manager, which in OP and my case is the button on the right (the three bars).
@ljdawson@lemmy.world would you be able to confirm if this is Sync-specific functionality, and if it is intended please? Thanks!
Oh, very interesting, and this is when you swipe on the back button, i.e. the left of the screen? Which OS/device do you have, out of curiosity?
For me on Android 12 on S10e, no other apps display this behaviour.
You are right, I’ve experienced the same thing. I’ve tried disabling all Sync settings relating to swipe actions and even enabled the setting to open the drawer instead of exiting when hitting the Android back button. No other apps have this gesture, and I’ve verified this is not an Android/Samsung setting. This seems like a big.
No, that’s not true. Note that he’s not talking about hitting back, rather swiping up from the Android back button. All other apps ignore this gesture. The gesture itself is different from what happens if you hit the back button in Sync.
Agreed. I think it dilutes user engagement, because people will leave comments on these bot threads, never to be seen by anybody else.
Yeah, I think this plus the desktop app might be a huge deal
