I mean, if we’re approaching the time where normal people are expected to have sympathy for people voting against their own (and everyone else’s) interests, I must make everyone aware that I have no sympathy left.

As someone still using Steam Controller on the daily, I’m most excited about Steam Controller 2. The original remains the best controller I have ever used.

I’ve definitely had issues with Linux versions + Wayland; however, most of the time they are easily cleared up by launching the Linux native version in gamescope, which plays nicer with window managers, too.

That said, there really isn’t anything wrong with running things in Proton. Sometimes you can get better performance in Proton with the Windows build versus running the game in Windows (due to various factors, including shader precaching). Compatability layer ≠ emulation, and it’s important to distinguish the two, because “emulation” does and should sound slow. Proton is not emulation, strictly speaking.

I really think this is the point of it all. A lot of these folks in power are accelerationists.

Linux only gamer for 3+ years now. It is a good time for the penguins.

Still running Pop on my desktop years later, exactly because of this. It’s stable and I like it. The only thing I don’t like is that it’s Pop.

And yet, all my laptops (which I don’t really rely on) run Arch.

Not only is everything smaller, but the codec looks better. Compression artifacts when AV1 is really pushing it at lower bitrates are more like… pointillism? They resemble grain instead of the fuzzy squares you can get with 264 or 265, and it is especially better in dark scenes.

Yes. And it’s just hypocrisy all the way down: otherwise, as you say, we wouldn’t hear anything negative about the left exercising right to protest.

On top of r/conservative is a post about “the algorithm” flooding someone’s feed with news about US protests. Of course, the response wasn’t “hey great! Look at all those people exercising their right to free speech!”. Instead, it’s just bitching and claims of fake news (and no understanding that there really may be significant protests right now – just automatically, they must be false). There is no logic for people who can no longer discern facts from opinions.

All these “free speech absolutists” still don’t realize that free speech does not mean immunity from consequences of that speech from your fellow citizens. It’s almost like they just haven’t paid attention for their entire lives.

They’ll do anything except regulate the folks hoarding all the property for passive income.

They nominees are the ones who win the primaries, regardless of who the DNC wants the nominees to be.

Yes. You know when you see headlines like “internet service shut off in X country amid Y event”? It’s like that.

All of this is fleeting. If the govt decides to deny you access to anything online, they can and will. The only ones left communicating will be on radios. Backups of individual sites are great and all, and necessary, but they mean next to nothing on a grand scale if a government makes such decisions.

At this point in the timeline it is an eventuality everyone should be aware of.

Of course, there are economic reasons why internet access en masse probably won’t get shut off at the tap(s). But it may end up being the case that true, free communication, as we think of it currently, is impossible due to restrictions on speech through automoderation, or just good old coercion through fear.

Call me when they remove the corporate interests and the DNC listens to Dem voters about nominees.
