

Fun fact: The terms first/second/third world counties had to do with what side you were on in WWII. First were the Allies, second Axis powers, and third were the neutral countries.
Since the Allies won WWII, they recovered faster and were pretty wealthy during the cold war era. No one really says “second world country” since the Axis powes got smashed. “Third world countries” were generally those too poor to have contributed much during or after the war, so “third world” got associated with a shitty place to live.
