  • There are crazy things that are happening during european elections. Swamrs of bots and fake accounts are used to promote anti-EU anti-everything parties.

There was a case in Romania that president was elected, but tuned out that much of his tiktok was sponsored through Russian and Chinese funds. But highest court overuled election results.

Facebook bots are being used in Lithuania by the shittiest parties, journalists get bombarded with hate comments after they openly critique those parties.

I think there’s great threat to every country national security with how social media is managed. However massive ID checks is going to create more problems and it won’t ever pass with German public since they are one of the most privacy conscious in EU.

  • The question is not why to start, but when do you stop, lol

I’m working in pharmaceutical production industry and I have started selfhosting few months ago.

I wanted to replace google photos with immich, cause my photo collection approached 200gb and I didn’t want to upgrade to 2tb version. My gf also had same problem

Bought second hand mini pc for 100€ to test to see how it goes and if I had decided to go back, i would have sold it.

Initially I was following FUTO guide, but quickly noticed it was too extensive and complex for my setup. I managed to set up immich with reverse proxy, did few mistakes here and there, but when it finally worked, I got hooked. I now have:

    • local backups to external drive (borg-web-ui docker)
    • ntfy. To send noticiation to my phone after backup had finished
    • diun. To notify when docker update is available
    • dockgee. docker management
    • tailscale. Remote access

All of it comes gradually, I’m tinkering with home assistant vm now.

  • I started selfhosting month ago. I’ve came across Borg Web Ui. Its borg, but wrapped in nice web ui. I managed to setup daily local backups to external drive without struggling in the CLI. Borg web ui provides more dumbed down documentation (which is good for me). I’ve also setup to send notification to my phone when the backup is successful. I used NTFY for that

  • in Lithuania we call commie block neighbourhood as “sleeping neighbourhood” since they were built far away from industrial areas where you would do your work and come back to sleep and nothing else. Many of these places also lack other infrastructure besides schools. But i agree with you on everything you listed
