Their entire voting base is doggedly fixed on the idea of turning up to vote even if they hate the candidate or even the current party platform. At the other end you have people who who consider not voting to be a high-minded protest, who only turn up for candidates who are ideologically pure enough: in other words, voters who represent no threat at all and can be ignored. Is it any wonder that those who only care about having power cater to the people who will still vote for you while you piss on them?

Telling people “calm down” is a very unconstructive de-escalation tactic because it has no substance. People respond much better if you address specific conduct, explain a potential consequence, ask for something else, and then give space.
For example, when someone needs to calm down, I tell them “You’d better fix that attitude problem of yours before it gets you into trouble”, and then as soon as they begin to respond I interrupt with “Close your mouth” and I walk away. This makes people realize they’re overreacting and they calm down right away.

  • Grok has clearly been instructed to defend Charlie Kirk in every context and to assert he “wins” in any given situation. Right-wing people like Kirk and Musk are obsessed with image and not losing face. Grok, like Kirk was programmed to simulate the kind of rationalizations and vernacular that appeal to right-wingers, and so it tries to spin-doctor Kirk getting capped as “actually he’s fine lol shut up nerd”. I think it’s hilarious, because it implies “Defend Charlie Kirk” is excruciatingly over-emphasized in the LLM’s instruction set to compensate for the fact that Kirk actually got humiliated regularly.

You’re on the bus, in a seat, but if the bus driver finishes the day and left his hat behind, his hat is in the bus on a seat. Active/private/static vs passive/public/transitory. You’re generally in buildings but on vehicles, unless that vehicle is both private and enclosed. It’s not much more complicated than in[side] vs on [top of]; just keep in mind that it’s predicated on whether or not the encapsulatory nature of the object is necessary to its identity. For instance, you could also ride on a flat parade float without walls or roof, and putting a box on it to make it a bus doesn’t change that, so it remains ‘on’.
