Every thread where you see “ceo of failing company gets $3M bonus” followed by “those workers could have used that” ignores the fact that there are so many employees that, divided evenly, it’s never more than $5, and frequently less than a dollar.
Yes, that’s technically better than nothing. And I agree the CEO doesn’t deserve a bonus if their company is failing. But focusing on this is missing the bigger picture of the lack of workers’ rights in America, and paints a target on the wrong people (CEOs instead of the government).
The system is designed in such a way that the residents get to make that decision. If they want to choose a non resident to represent them, they are allowed to do that.
In theory, an informed population should vote against this behaviour, but this particular riding will vote conservative until it kills them (which it’s likely to do).
Also, don’t concentrate people in a single place. It’s wrong to have a 4% population growth in Toronto and 0.5% elsewhere.
Is there a mechanism for anchoring immigrants in a specific location? My understanding is that our charter right of freedom of movement means that if everyone wants to go to Toronto, we can’t stop them once they’re in the country.

Since I wasn’t clear at all in my first comment: I’m referring to the fact that people can also get away with murder, as long as they’re driving a car at the time. Very rarely is it much more than a slap on the wrist, but it’s always significantly less than any other form of negligent homicide.

These contributions are so small. I wouldn’t mind if my own country increased their contributions to WHO by 20% to make up for this shortfall.
The biggest problem is that the WHO is a worldwide health organization. Without cooperation from the States, there could be huge health impacts elsewhere that could have been otherwise averted. Will other countries also pull out?

I think the generational shift was mostly that the previous generation just didn’t have or use computers at home, and suddenly they were everywhere. Most households just didn’t have a computer until the late 90s or early 00s. By then, floppies were on their way out, and burning CDs was all the rage.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s the correct “deal” to make - it’s the most overt declaration he can make to those who claim he wants to be dictator for life - I just think it’s probably a win/win for him.

If these were legally obtained photos, why should someone be compelled to delete them? Compelled deletion is a slippery slope. Shared a legally purchased mp3 with a friend? Delete it. Shared a picture of Beyonce at the Superbowl? Delete it.
I think you fundamentally misunderstand what Amazon is removing. From your linked article:

The only thing Amazon is removing is the ability to save books that you purchased from them. No more personal backups of legally purchased material, but piracy is still fair game.
Their factories in Nevada, Texas, and China all have a lot of extra space and/or land for expansion. They’ve also been considering building more factories in Mexico, another one in Europe, and possibly SE Asia, though it’s unclear whether any of those are going to materialize - especially with the current downturn in sales.
Their batteries may not be special, but if they can scale to what they were promising a few years ago (which is a much bigger “if” than it used to be), their battery business could easily surpass BYD’s, which could justify its current market cap on its own (but not much higher).
I’ve got mixed feelings on FSD. I think it’s nearly “solved” for places with nice climate, but I think there’s a lot of work needed to deal with inclement weather like snow and slush and even heavy rain. I don’t think any company has any idea how to solve that issue, so they’re just pushing it down the road until someone else solves it first.
The share price isn’t based on car sales. If it were just about car sales, it would be about 10% of the price it is now.
The share price is mostly ridiculous, but it is also people trying to get in early, on the assumption that they solve FSD, battery storage, Optimus (their robot), and battery manufacturing.
If they solve all of this, then Tesla could 10x again. It’s very future dependent, and I think that future is a lot longer away than a lot of other shareholders think.
I got in at ~$20 per share. I’ve significantly reduced my position over the last few months, but I do still believe in the original mission of Tesla. I just don’t think they’re going to get there with Elon.
I believe that Trump may not have won without him. He weaponized twitter to push misinformation against the Dems and in favour of Trump. I don’t know if the result of that can be quantified in such a way that we’d know for sure whether it changed the outcome, but it certainly had an impact.
