It also drastically increases wait times, and the additional time off of work is also a (much larger) form of poll tax. Especially considering how many democrats don’t work jobs where they can just take an entire day off on a whim. In my (conservative leaning) county, I can reliably vote in about 5-10 minutes. And most of that time is just filling in the little bubbles. Last time my wife and I went, there was only one person in line ahead of us. There are enough polling locations that I can expect any wait times to be minimal.
But 50 miles away in the (liberal leaning) city, they have closed so many polling locations that wait times easily stretch into anywhere between 4 to 8 hours. For someone who is working a minimum wage job, it means you’re not voting if you have work that day. Oh, and it’s illegal to hand out water bottles to the people who have been waiting in line in the hot sun for 4+ hours.
It’s weird how the conservative mind virus, for something that is allegedly soooo popular needs so many assists and cheats to get itself into power…
The fundamental difference between Republicans and Democrats is that Democrats believe they need (to quote Nancy Pelosi) “a strong Republican party” in order to balance the country.
And Republicans don’t feel the same way about the Dems.

Texas already restricts mail-in voting. During Covid, I had to go vote in-person at a crowded polling station.

The last I heard about 48% of Latinos voted for Trump. I wonder what percentage of those have college education.
Centrist Democrats have refused to cater to their constituents for decades. They’ve spent all their efforts following the neoliberal economic agenda while only doing performative acts towards the working class and minorities. They’ve been noticeably hostile towards progressives.
Texas is already minority-majority. But much like apartheid regimes in South Africa, the Dominican Republic, and the West Bank, its the settlers who have the military power and the administrative authority.

Random bit, but as someone from Tarrant County, the assigned polling places thing was really annoying and confusing. Glad they got rid of that.
