It bothers me when people use “what’s the point we’re fucked anyway” as an excuse to avoid doing the smallest good things
This is 100% true, however, it depends entirely on who each person defines as “we” and what they define as “fucked.”
Authoritarianism is brittle, and easily fractures. Sure, there are examples of large-scale, long-lasting authoritarian regimes. And plenty of examples where they burn themselves out quickly and crumble. Often times they’re held together by one charismatic leader that is the only thing keeping it all from spiraling apart. “We” shouldn’t be the status quo, because the status quo is always changing - sometimes by a lot, sometimes hardly at all. Don’t cling to something where the only 100% known value is that it will change.
“We” is the people that matter to you most in the world. “Fucked” is suffering you create for yourself if you let fear and clinging to desire define your life.

Because we’re not fucked.
I was going to comment basically the same thing. Some of us are going to die, but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make (even myself) to make sure that empathetic people can control the remains of the world as we descend into madness as climate destruction.
The world is fucked for a lot of reasons, but not in a way that will prevent us from being kind to each other before our untimely deaths. Sometimes, counterintuitively, blowing people’s necks off their bodies is one of the kindest things you can do :)
Everyone else: Freaking out over unlawful detention, loss of civil rights, corrupted education system, asset forfeiture, bank collapses, “law and order” police brutality, detention camps, locked out of housing market, insurrection.
Black people: First time, huh?
Well, yeah, Nazi Germany wasn’t around long in the grand scheme of things. This brand of fascism won’t be either. It’s still not a process I wanna go through.
Thanks for posting. A nice thing to read tonight.
