Actual answer: Exists as Flatpak. Yes, with disclaimer that it’s no longer maintained and may be a security risk, but then again, the github hasn’t been updated sice 2021 either so…
Yeah I happened to notice it in bazaar while working on it. Currently struggling to get the dance mat working. The game controller menu freezes and crashes whenever it’s plugged in. Works totally fine on steam though, but I can’t make steam hijack the signals. Gonna try a hidraw driver I found later.
Bazzite comes with joydev, analog, and xpad, so just a cursory search has me believe this should work more or less out of the box (https://askubuntu.com/questions/33676/how-to-configure-an-usb-ddr-dance-pad-for-stepmania) but I acknowledge I have no way to test this. You might have to modprobe each module or add them to /etc/modules-load.d/ddr-pad.conf …
Yeah I tried a bunch of stuff and kept hitting walls. Cmake doesn’t work on bazzite or my mint on distrobox. Apt-get install on mint checked some dependencies but didn’t install anything. Think I tried pulling source files from git but something went wrong there too. Tried stable and beta branch as well. I kept notes on my efforts I can check later for more accurate info.
Arch box endlessly (30+ mins) loading apps for export so I can’t even open AUR, but I noticed stepmania pop up in bazaar so… One click install basically. Finding the folder to drop songs in was a small hassle and themes and announcers aren’t showing up, but the game runs and songs show up so I’m content for now. Gonna see if the dance mat works tomorrow.
Lol skill issue. I use Bazzite BTW.
Install stepmania and tell me how, I’m suffering.

Darn, I don’t have a dance mat0 :/ Silly approach but output dancemat to keystrokes? I have made some silly combinations work with AntiMicroX (https://github.com/AntiMicroX/antimicrox?tab=readme-ov-file) installed as flatpak.
Maybe helpful:

¯_(ツ)_/¯
Good luck!

Use an Arch distrobox and install from the AUR.

Thanks will try that.
