Idk who they used to vote for in BC, but they told me the drug issues in Victoria and Vancouver were what drove them to vote more conservative. Showed me some documentary called “Vancouver is dying”. I’m from the US so I don’t know a lot about Canadian politics but from what I gather Danielle Smith is an anti trans fascist. They don’t seem to agree.

They immigrated from the US and can’t stand trump but I guess they identify more with the Canadian version of George Bush era Republicans than outright fascist Republicans. I couldn’t get them to admit that Canada doesn’t have the social safety net to get everyone out of drug addiction. It’s like they think they moved to some northern utopia or something lol.

Yeah, the Tories are definitely sliding quickly into the same fascist niche that current American Republicans are deep into. And if their concern was drug abuse “ruining” Vancouver and Victoria, I’m sure they’ll be pleasantly surprised with things over in Alberta. (/s) The Tories constantly block any and all reasonable efforts to get people the help they actually need to break out of that addiction cycle. So I guess a self fulfilling prophecy for Tory voters.

Don’t know much about Danielle Smith, but from what I’ve heard she definitely comes off as an Anti-trans hyper Conservative fascist, who is speed-running the further enshittification of Alberta.

They were all mad about the harm reduction methods BC was doing. I’m just like, well, its saving lives. Also I don’t trust the dude who made the Vancouver is dying documentary. Seems like a right wing grifter.

I’ve not seen it, but from what you’ve said, I’d say that’s absolutely what he is!
And man, those harm reduction methods not only save lives, they reduce crime, disease and actively make the most deprived neighbourhoods a safer and better place.

Linked above is the movie they sat me down and had me watch with them. Aaron Gunn is the guy who made it. Doing some light research he’s been accused of transphobic, sexist rhetoric and complaining that BC liberals don’t support free speech which any leftist can tell you is just a dog whistle for bigotry going unpunished.

I’m not 100% sold on some harm reduction they supposedly do in BC. Like, if you’re going to give away government produced drugs you should make it impossible for people to just hoard it and then sell it on the street, but overall the message I got out of the documentary was that drug addiction should be stigmatized and punished, which I don’t agree with.

My understanding of the drugs being provided is that they are required to be used in a supervised site when they are acquired, not that they’re just given out willy-nilly. That said I can see, and understand, where you concerns lay in that.
Oh yeah, Aaron Gunn, he’s a real piece of shit, if you’ll pardon my language.

I was born and raised in Vancouver. I am however an ex-pat. Currently I live in Edinburgh, Scotland. Still pretty tied in with things back home, all my family and friends still live there, and I keep pretty close tabs on happenings back home.

I am sorry to tell you that is 100% not correct. I work in the industry and people get given whopping amounts of hydromorphone tablets that end up in highschool and university students pockets for partying and anxiety. We have over 20x more clients under 25 than ever before

I work on the medical side of addiction treatment. Not doxxing myself and you can choose to believe what you would like but I see this policy as an absolute failure of duty to our youth and young adults.

Don’t be suckered in. Conservatives are just fascists who don’t say the quiet parts out loud.

I’ve also seen the phrase “Seattle is dying” a lot. It’s just how right wingers point to frame their hatred for West Coast cities.
