I have a touch of the stupid. Is the implication that the mother ate half of it, or that something else did and she continued protecting it despite it being dead?
Took me a minute to work that out as well. Mummy as in mummified, not as in mother
I think it’s an exercise left to the reader. Probably more likely the second one, as why would she not finish eating it, or eat half and then leave, if it was the first?
