Hamas has taken responsibility for the fatal shooting and stabbing attack in Tel Aviv that unfolded on Tuesday just as Iran was launching a ballistic missile barrage on Israel.

Seven people were killed in the attack, and 16 people were injured, the Israel Police Spokesperson’s Unit and Shin Bet said in a joint statement Wednesday. The two alleged attackers were also killed, police said.

In a statement Wednesday, Hamas’ military wing claimed responsibility for the attack.

Okay Hamas is important for the Palestinian cause but seriously can they just stop shit like this? The whole world is paying attention to them and this is how they decide to use that attention?

Aside from killing civilians (warcrimes), I think this does generally prove that Hamas is probably out of any major munitions and supplies. Seems like a pretty desperate and useless attack to carry out. I wonder how aware Israel has been of this and maybe they waited before hitting Lebanon so they’d only have to deal with one thing at a time.

I think you could be right about that. It would go along with Netanyahu’s former best friend’s claim that Netanyahu wants a forever war to keep his dictatorial war powers.

Israel has fronts in Gaza, Westbank, Lebanon and conflict with Yemens Houthis and Iran+ Iran backed militias in Iraq and Syria. People in Jordan are getting fed up and celebrating people who attacked the Israeli occupation forces in the Westbank.

Israel decided to escalate things in the Westbank and now with Hezbollah, where before the conflict remained on a low, but also provoking Iran and Syria with attacks in the recent months.

Most Analysts say that this is because the IDF and Netanyahu need some wins, after failing to achieve the stated goals “destroy Hamas” and “bring back the Hostages” militarily and discontent has risen. Now with killing some Hezbollah leaders public opinion became favorable again. Hamas is countering that with pointing out the strategic failure in Gaza through this terroristic attack.

Hamas has set the Palestinian cause back by decades. They’re important in the same way cancer is important to the human body.

Hamas has set the Palestinian cause back by decades.

How so? Hamas has been the leader of both armed resistance and peace talks with Israel for 20 years, and if you look at the change in public opinion in the West over the time period you’ll see the result. You said they set the Palestinian cause back by decades, but then I would like to ask: In what way did they set it back and who else was even advancing it?

Hamas did not lead any peace talks worth a damn and their “armed resistance” has only ever consisted of attacks on civilians, usually by firing missiles at settlements in unambiguously Israeli territory (attacking military installations or even settlements in the West Bank would’ve been at least somewhat defensible, but that’s not what they’ve been doing) and then hiding behind their own civilian population to hinder Israeli retaliation, getting them killed in the process. They also did all that from Gaza, an area that Israel de-occupied after the Second Intifada, and which could have served as a positive example of peaceful Palestinian self-government and eventually independence instead of the opposite.

Hamas did not lead any peace talks worth a damn

2008? 2012? 2013? These were all serious peace talks where they were unambiguously stiffed by Israel with clear malicious intent.

has only ever consisted of attacks on civilians, usually by firing missiles at settlements in unambiguously Israeli territory (attacking military installations or even settlements in the West Bank would’ve been at leriast somewhat defensible, but that’s not what they’ve been doing)

These attacks serve to cost Israel money needed to run the iron dome, and in large quantities can be a way of exerting political pressure (see: 2021) and causing economic losses by forcing evacuations. It’s not pretty, but it works.

then hiding behind their own civilian population to hinder Israeli retaliation, getting them killed in the process.

I’ve literally never seen evidence for this. And please don’t tell me they put their headquarters in residential areas because literally every military in the world does that. The human shields argument is, when you get down to it, taking issue with the fact that Hamas exists in Gaza, which is… Yeah.

They also did all that from Gaza, an area that Israel de-occupied after the Second Intifada, and which could have served as a positive example of peaceful Palestinian self-government and eventually independence instead of the opposite.

Educate yourself. This is too wrong to correct it all, but let me just point out that the blockade started immediately after the deoccupation and that Gaza is still considered occupied by the UN. Israel never had any intention of allowing peaceful Palestinian existence.

So you are fine with deliberate attacks on civilians, so long as they’re Israeli civilians. That’s really all I needed to know here. Bye.
