- Surely that will solve the problems of the youth on social media. Not like there are any 12 year olds on 13+ social networks today anyways. - Better to try than to do nothing. - No. - Introducing too strict law which is divorced from the reality is making people to disregard laws in general, not necessarily just this one. - That’s a good thing. Disregarding laws shows that the government actually has no power and showing the government having no power is fantastic to do.

- That’s just it. Nobody has really tried. This is little more than PR unless there’s actual enforcement.
- No, it’s a waste of time and resources. Kids will find a way, they ALL do.

- Hey Australia, how are you going to call up every instance operator in the fediverse and every nostr relay operator? Huh?
- Moronic.
- I think it’s a step in the right direction, though it will be interesting to see where the boundaries are drawn. Does YouTube count? What about gaming platforms like Roblox and Fortnite? - Edit: On further reading about this, I’m changing my mind. I can’t see how this would be implemented effectively without some kind of age verification. Unless it’s a meaningless Steam-style “What’s your birthday?” question, that makes it far more troublesome for everyone’s privacy. I can’t see how it would get off the ground after so many Australians have had their data stolen already.
- They sure do seem to love that word “onus”. - Why do you think that is?
- Imagine being the australian government and trying to hide the reality of your genocidal prison colony from the youth… Just like USA. - Do you have source on this? Never heard of it.
