His farm would have made a fortune. Everyone from far and wide would come to eat the president’s nuts. I want to think he thought that one through and said yea I’m selling before that becomes a thing . Well that integrity or both

Putting aside he did the right thing, eating the “president’s nuts” is hilarious.

They would be the perfect side for Billy Beer. Billy was Jimmy Carters brother.

And openly accepting a winged bribe from Qatar. It boggles my mind that the better world leaders, including a few US politicians, don’t understand how he operates and get in on the game. Give him money and flattery and he’ll do whatever the hell you want.

During the first term, I was hopeful that at least they would at least codify the norms into laws but considering the emoluments clause is already in the constitution, I guess nothing really matters, and Republicans will defend him no matter what. I guess I should lower my standards and just hope there is a country left for a corrupt Democrat to be elected who blatantly violates everything, to get the Republicans to set some standards for the office.

I’m pretty sure he did that without being asked because he wanted to avoid the appearance of conflict of interest. That’s the way I heard the story anyhow

I think “what’s good for me right now” is fundamental to the right wing viewset. Hypocrisy isn’t a factor because that doesn’t typically intersect with “is this good for me right now?”

You can point out they said X and now they say Not-X, but that’s going to be as effective as someone telling you that your math is wrong because yesterday you were wearing green and today you’re wearing brown. it’s just a non-sequitur to them.

I usually agree but sometimes I think it’s a mistake to attribute any principle to them whatsoever. More and more I think the right wing has no actual center and is just an agglomeration of voters being swung around and manipulated by a random list of media and political hustlers. They’re a blob of chaos being goaded forward by this grifter and now that grifter. I’d like to believe there is any kind of guiding principle they have in mind but I don’t think there actually is any. They are so-and-so many asses braying toward so-and-so many dangled carrots.

From which came the (now largely archaic) phrase “more x than Carter’s got peanuts.
