The problem with concentrating power in an office like the presidency for a system as large and complex at the US, is that people will suffer and die just through carelessness and inaction. Putting a narcissist there, then spreading that weaponized incompetence throughout the government makes the effects difficult to quantify.

We are way, way past simple rape, molestation or trafficking. How many children have starved, wilted from treatable illness, or been outright tortured, blown up, shot, or killed from Trump’s actions? How many people? And, for how many generations to come, long past his death from old age and dementia? Venezuela, Iran, Ukraine, Gaza, Lebanon, US AID, healthcare, climate change, economic regulation, and the rest of the Epstein network he helped fund for decades, the list of things his plague has had a hand in goes on and on and on.

You don’t really need to do anything for the presidency to have negative effects. Much time is spent mitigating the negatives just from trying to do good. Actively working diligently to make it worse from the top down with an army of appointed little Trumps would make it almost genocidal if the misery weren’t so generalized.

The rules that governed 30 million people two hundred years ago today govern over 300 million, and the population increase isn’t even the biggest societal change since then.
