I like a lot of the communities on that instance, but every once in a while I just get hit with a random wave of toxicity by them for no reason. For example, there was a post asking which communities from Reddit do you wish existed on Lemmy, and I answered honestly saying more car related communities as they are one of my hobbies, and I got severely downvoted and got replied to with “there is a FuckCars community” There are other times in the past where something similar happened in a lemmy.ml community, where I said something that was 100% non-offensive, non-argumentative, and non-political but got mass down voted for no reason. I have not had this problem anywhere else however. Does anyone else have a similar experience or no?

Stop caring about ‘votes’

Don’t caring about what people you don’t want to hear from. Just block them.
I apologize to everyone I’m about to insult but lemmy users generally behave like redditors. People generally don’t write comments with relevant information in order to have them passed over. It can be frustrating, especially when the rest of the comments are repeated jokes or could be summarized as alternative articulations of “this.”
Nah, there’s one key difference between lemmy users and Reddit users. They behave mostly the same, but there is also a sense of superiority where they just think they know better because of the platform they choose to use.
That is true for reddit and lemmy. No difference really.
Redditors think they’re better than everyone else. Lemmy users think they’re better than Redditors and everyone else. Lemmy users are one step higher on the superiority complex totem pole

My biggest complaint about Lemmy is really a complaint about me. I let myself get drawn in to multiple exhausting conversations today. Usually, it’ll be weeks between convos like that, but apparently the assholes are out in force today.
I need to remember that it’s okay to ignore people - but when they’ve decided that you’re WRONG, and won’t stop nagging you about it, it’s hard to just let things go.
When my instance was still federated with hexbear I would see these statements that I knew were wrong but they were said so confidently. I spent ages checking through history events to confirm that I was right and their post was complete history misinformation. Then I would reply with dates and explained what actually happened and then like 10 people from hexbear would chime in saying I’m wrong and double down on the original claim.
You mentioning the car thing is so true. Anytime you mention stuff about cars here, you’ll get the typical comment reply using it as a soapbox platform to say how cars are the devil.
The FuckCars users are some of the most toxic people on this site. It’s not even worth arguing with them.
I get why people are anti cars. But those who want to take cars away from people who enjoy them and who are trying to behave responsibly just suck.
