Here’s to you, AnandTech - thank you for the detailed smartphone reviews all these years.
Thought about this recently. I have a pixel 6 pro, and I searched and I couldn’t find a reviewer that said it’s not worth the upgrade to the 9/9 pro. They usually had several reasons why. Literally the only reason is the camera. Meh. I ain’t spending MORE money to buy a slight camera upgrade. Fuck that.
Do you actually need a new phone? If you don’t need any new features just have your battery replaced and keep using it.
I don’t even need a battery. Basically my point is it’s more expensive, with little more to offer, and I’m not spending that much on such an incremental upgrade. I don’t need to upgrade.
So don’t buy one? You don’t need a new phone every 1-2y unless you’re a spectacularly well trained consumer.
I usually replace my phone every 3-4y when power efficiency and performance have significantly improved, or there’s a new radio standard that I need (5G, AX WiFi) or the camera makes me want an upgrade. If none of those things are true then use your phone until it dies 🤷♂️
I never said I was going to buy one…lol. Also pixel 9 is 3 iterations over the 6.
My point is that they’re charging so much for what’s basically the same. Therefore I will not buy one.
Did you comment on the correct post? Not sure how this comment is related to Anandtech shutting down.
