My hope is that more “quiet Democrats” get primary’d. Usually they would say “don’t primary me, you’ll risk losing us to the Republican candidate in the general and we have a moderate agenda that’s the lesser evil”.

Not rocking the boat is better than setting the country on fire for no goddamn reason (if the system were burning down with a reasonable expectation we could make it better that’d be arguably different). Not American but from my point of view it looks like you need her more than anything. Her, and preferably many more just like her. Normal intelligent people from all walks of life. Decent human beings.
This is also why I’ve never had an issue with Elizabeth Warren, not that I want to be shilling for her here. I would’ve loved to see her get a real chance at the presidency though. While she might be relatively wealthy now she also came from a comparatively normal background, and she seems to remember living it, too (I obviously don’t have her voting records in front of my face, but I’ve read almost everything she’s ever written).

AOC got into Congress by beating the #4 Democratic Congressional leader in the primary, now she’s poised to beat the top Senate Democrat in the primary. She’s an actual giant killer. All other Democrats should take note - it’s not her politics that people are responding to, it’s her strength. We need people who aren’t afraid to stand up to the Nazis, and she is fearless.
It is her politics and her strength, and Also her transparency and her target demographic. She represents the people - not the big corporations, even the corporations that favor Democrats. She’s here for the 99%, and to help her people, she is willing to take from the top 1% that never should have the money they possess.

There are others who have the same ideals, but they arent considered the leaders of the young progressives, and Bernie’s heir apparent. The reason she is out front is because she has never been afraid to get in people’s faces when they come after her. They demonized Hillary for 30 years, and in the end it was what blocked her path to the White House. AOC isn’t going to let them do the same thing to her.
Her Politics of the People make us trust her, but its her relentless strength that makes us want her to lead us. That will only increase as she spends time in the Senate, and we see her grow. It would be great to see her in the presidency in her 30s, but she’ll do a better job in her more-experienced 40s.

I just want her to run for president. But after fielding 2 uninspiring establishment centre-right candidates with no grassroots base, that offer nothing exciting, the Democrats and even many voters think that women in general are unelectable.

AOC is having a fucking moment, so naturally women of color suddenly can’t win. Sanders got raked over the coals for just being accused of saying something like that to Warren. But it’s sure different now that the party can’t use it as a weapon against a progressive. Now they’re trying to keep AOC from running. So the party will hold back all women in order to hold back one progressive woman.

Gerald Ford was once addressing a classroom, and one of the kids asked him if a woman would ever be President, and he said that a woman would definitely be president someday, but the first woman president wouldnt be directly elected. He thought the first woman president would be a vice president, who gets promoted when the president dies. After that, a woman wouldn’t have a problem getting elected. I thought that was a pretty insightful read on the weird bigotry of Americans.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that racism and especially sexism don’t exist within the Democratic voting base. They are much less of a problem than within the Republican voting base, but they are still significant enough to swing elections.

What does that mean and why is that different from her current role?
She is currently in the house as a rep for her district. There are 435 members.
She’s campaigning for the senate to represent the state. There are 100 members, two from each state.
Then she can have the voice of 10 million people count for 1 vote. And a Senator from Montana can have the voice of ~5% of that count for the same 1 vote.
Sorry for sounding down about it, we need better senators, but we need to overhaul the way the Senate works
This is why we have both the house of reps and the senate. The house of reps means that states with a high population get adequate representation, and the senate means that states with lower populations can still have a say instead of having no chance of outvoting the high pop states
Yeah I think thr house and senate are good as they are for that reason. It’s the electoral college and gerrymandering districts that are the biggest election problems.
Gerrymandering is what Senators are for the most part. I’ll drawn lines not according to populous depicting who’s word means more than another. If they drew a map and said that Albany New York had a representative and New York City has a representative and their votes were worth the same for matters dealt within the state of New York people would find it deeply unfair. The voice of the many is meant to outweigh the voice of the few in a democratic form of government. That doesn’t mean that New York wouldn’t vote to support rural areas as the people know you don’t grow agriculture in cities. To keep food plentiful and cheap, they would vote to ensure the rural areas have what they need as well. If they don’t have enough, they would start to move away and hurt the population. If they have a lot, more people would move from the cities to the rural areas yearning for the same, which would decrease with increased farmers and eventually balance out. Note, people who live in cities are more likely to vote left of those who live in rural areas. Yet those who live in cities are the ones voting for candidates who bring up issues like the bees dying out. They believe in supporting the bees not because they actually care about the species, but because they know their deaths would cause struggles for rural areas and drive food prices up and cause scarcity. This isnt all black and white of course, but you get my drift. People aren’t pushing for healthcare for city dwellers only, they are pushing for healthcare for all. When 500,000 people 10,000,000 peoples voices, it is not in the best interest of the people.
There are two seperate houses in congress, the house of reps, and the senate. Each state gets a number of reps proportional to its population. But they each get two senators no matter the size of the population. AOC is a rep in the house. Schumer is one of two senators for NY.
A primary election is an election within a party (in this case the democrats, of which they are both members). When he has to run for office again, she (or anyone) can challenge him as the Democratic candidate. If she were to win, then the only other way he could run would be under amother party (or without a party, called an independant).
