Civ7 still sucks?
Xcom died for this
Everybody I know who plays the civ series complain about the gameplay being ever simplified and dumbed down. And with the latest game being divided into epochs wat?
I wouldn’t know, I stopped playing after it peaked with civ4.
Now I play Unciv! 😁
I’ve got
hundredsthousands (lol) of hours in Civ VI alone. I’ve paid for copies for PC, Switch, and Android (and I’m cheap as hell so that’s really saying something). I played Civ VII for maybe an hour or two and then never came back to it. I shouldn’t have to tell you that a Civ game you can willingly put down is not a good Civ game. Aside from the game just not being very fun to begin with, the transition between ages is so clunky, it just completely ruins all of your planning and the pacing of the game. With this news I saw some DLC had been released since I tried the game and thought ‘oh great, maybe they fixed it a bit or added new mechanics.’ Nope, just more fluff. Never again, Firaxis. You will never get another dime from me.
Alpha Centauri is the peak for me.
I know the feel. But don’t let the peabrains get you down, find something else to play which brings you joy and fun again.
Or do like me and mostly just give up on gaming as it’ll be a long time until it’s going to be fun again - Going from a lifestyle gamer to a filthy casual in just a few years.
There are so many incredible indie games out there. The people who think gaming has gotten boring need to look past the marketing and find interesting games. Yeah, AAA is fucking boring. Stop hoping that’s going to change. It’s business people making products, not developers making art. Find the indie games that do something new that fit your style.
I keep forgetting this game came out. I guess it was bad as no one’s really talking about it as much as people talked about civ 6.
I got my start with civ 5.
It’s what happens when you copy someone else’s homework; the formula they tried to emulate with VII is Humankind, which actually is a good game, but they didn’t really understand the secret sauce that made it good. They just stole mechanics and called it a day.
Hahah this is why I got 100% turned off by Civ VII. I played humankind and it was not good. It was fun for a bit but got stupidly repetitive and they never ever managed to polish it to completion. The core game is amazing, the battles especially, but they never managed to balance it correctly and it just kept being boring by mid game.
Then Firaxis comes by and literally plagiarized the entire game. It’s the exact same thing down to the core mechanics. I’m amazed they haven’t gotten sued by the Humankind devs, but maybe they worked out a deal. The whole Civ VII thing just reeks of laziness.
Mod projects for Civ 4 are still going, right?
Probably, I don’t know.
I prefer Unciv, open source, actively developed, active mod scene, free online multiplayer, linux+android support and cross platform saves with Syncthing autosync.
I’ll never let an opportunity to tell about Unciv pass me by.
Only problem is that it looks like it was developed for the SNES.
It’s the default graphics pack. Use the build-in mod downloader to use something you like. Or just avoid it due to your graphical preferences, whatever floats your goat.
Thanks for the heads up. I’ll check it out!
Yes, there are many modpacks that are available and some are even getting updated.
The Dune one is great, I keeping coming back to it over the years. There is always a fantasy total conversion mod, but I never got into it.
I’m a simple man.
I play Civ VI.
As Victoria (Age of Empire)
Continents and islands map.
I’m not here for surprises.
Dad?!
Yes I am dad
Name checks out.
Unciv is a gift I’m not convinced I deserve.
It’s good.
Man, I had tons of fun with that Dune TC for Civ 4.
Civ 5 was still pretty damn good too.
that’s a shame. fuck 2K
I’ve played every single Civ game well past the time its successor was released, and at some point have always eventually moved on.
Now, after obsessing as Peter on Pangea map with Critical Thinking as my entertainment based religion, I’m realizing I may not update this time. Ever.
The next version sounds absolutely lousy. I may just go back and start regressing - although I’m not sure I could find copies earlier than 4. I still have 5 and 6 on active machines.
