Really hate to be the shithead here but there were a lot of people without Nazi tattoos who were goaded into voting for Nazis because they got accused of shit preemptively. And the Nazis were just glad to welcome them aboard.
Yes I still blame them but also maybe we should examine that impulse a little.
Somewhat? The murders of political rivals were violent and the following holocaust but most things leading up to those largely happened with the German people’s consent, which fascistic governments are effective at gaining.
It was pretty hostile but there was a lot of democratic process and the key thing was the ratcheting up over a good 10 years before they really went for power. They would take small pieces of power and grow their control incrementally until they had too much momentum for any other group to deal with them. Also some groups thought they could use them to their advantage and reign them in when things were sorted. They were getting the highest votes but it was a mixture of a lot of things and they pretty quickly stopped being democratic votes after the first few elections. Lots of propaganda, a large amount of coercion at least initially, some blindness and unforeseen consequences but a decent portion of the population supported the whole thing. At least that’s my understanding.

“You fucking Nazi!”
“What? I’m not a nazi! And to prove it, I’m voting for the nazis!”
It’s my understanding that the Nazi party was in fact not voted into power. It was a hostile takeover.

Minority, but a plurality. And then the fuckery and take over began.
Everyone in the PRC supports the CCP.
It’s because the ruling party is so good that everyone loves them unconditionally, of course.
