I mean enough scrapmetal still means food/drugs. And I’m certain many cities have a population that would find value in that. Just need to drop off some well placed flyers, and cities would be deflocked overnight.

Are most scrap yards even accessible without a car? My country isn’t nearly as car-centric as the US and it would still be a huge issue to try and go to a scrap yard on foot.

I think the bigger issue whether you can actually sell stuff like that at the scrap yard if you don’t have license or something else that proofs that you got ur scrap legitimately.

We never of that kind of requirement around here. I know people who drove their old rusted metal tables to the scrapyard, obviously they didn’t have any kind of proof that those are actually theirs and definitely no scrapping license. But maybe the local scrapyards might still refuse people if there’s a more concrete reason for suspicion, IDK.

Here where I live, yes, they’re accessible, and I have people who go through my trash and recycling for cans every trash day (to the point we keep those on top so they don’t have to dig.) Usually walking with their commandeered carts.

Is scrap somehow much more valuable in your parts, or are these people even more desperate than the people around here who collect cans and bottles that have a deposit? I feel like more people here would scrap non-deposit cans if it was worth the effort …
