Looks like silver- or tin-plated copper to me. So not entirely silver.
Don’t let that fact stop anyone who might enjoy this as a past time though…
I dunno, looks like it could be platinum to me. You know how these high tech gadgets are.
I heard that all of those new “data centers” have lots of copper. Lots of it. So I’d be checking them out before they can suck up all of our good drinking water. /s
Why /s? There must be loads of copper wiring, and I fully encourage theft from billionaires and tech grifters.
Gold as well, PCB boards contain gold.
With all that extra money I can buy some ram and a new gpu!
Good news! They already have RAM and GPUs at the data centers! Skip a step, pick 'em fresh.
Data is more valuable than copper.
I’d look into grabbing some of that data
You’ll just needs good place to put it all somewhere.
Yeah some kind of central location to store it all
The batteries are genuinely valuable
Banksy says that any advert in a public space that gives you no choice whether you see it or not is yours to rearrange and reuse. It seems a reasonable extension that any surveillance device that gives you no choice whether it sees you or not is yours to rearrange and reuse.
As are the organs of the traitors who installed it.
I can’t play an organ though, could I take the traitors drums instead if they have them? I could probably make a sick beat on those.
You can play the traitors like a drum, John Bonham-style.
Spank a class traitor
I could use some of that silver on my projects
I know, right? Fucking vampires.
And werewolves…
Yeah, I always get them mixed up. Them garlic bullets don’t do shit anyway.
Wouldn’t it make a lot more sense for these memes to show actual value. Crackheads are desperate but they ain’t that dumb.
If we’re going to spread misinformation… Why not actually spread misinformation???
Looks like you need to make some memes my friend!
Yeah that’s not “pure” silver.
Looks like aluminum plated solid gold to me!
Shh. Don’t let the tweakers hear you. We’re recruiting an army here.
They should have made it more believable then. Tweakers might be dumb, but don’t spit in their face. They know their game and what metals are likely to be.
That’s the joke.
You’re right - they’re trying to pull one over on you. It’s platinum.
I mean enough scrapmetal still means food/drugs. And I’m certain many cities have a population that would find value in that. Just need to drop off some well placed flyers, and cities would be deflocked overnight.
You do need to gather enough scrap to cover gas, that’s hard to do with these.
If you have a car, you are likely not the demographic I was talking about.
Are most scrap yards even accessible without a car? My country isn’t nearly as car-centric as the US and it would still be a huge issue to try and go to a scrap yard on foot.
I think the bigger issue whether you can actually sell stuff like that at the scrap yard if you don’t have license or something else that proofs that you got ur scrap legitimately.
We never of that kind of requirement around here. I know people who drove their old rusted metal tables to the scrapyard, obviously they didn’t have any kind of proof that those are actually theirs and definitely no scrapping license. But maybe the local scrapyards might still refuse people if there’s a more concrete reason for suspicion, IDK.
Here where I live, yes, they’re accessible, and I have people who go through my trash and recycling for cans every trash day (to the point we keep those on top so they don’t have to dig.) Usually walking with their commandeered carts.

Is scrap somehow much more valuable in your parts, or are these people even more desperate than the people around here who collect cans and bottles that have a deposit? I feel like more people here would scrap non-deposit cans if it was worth the effort …
I honestly don’t know. It’s outside my knowledge beyond what I’ve already told you.
Yeah I think it’s an alloy or some kind still worth it though.
If they’re plated copper, they might actually have decent value. Several of the components there are electrical, so they genuinely might be. A couple of them just look like coupler nuts, so cheap mild steel.
Don’t forget the copper wiring they are attached to!
And the wooden pole!
Not to mention the delicious videos inside
And the useful bones inside the CEO that can be made into jewelry and tools

I’m a total slut for executive-bone jewelry.
Then we have MUCH to discuss!
This is a feature of Dwarf Fortress
Bros just over here consuming media
Truly the catalytic converter of 2026
This makes no sense, sorry. Why would it be silver out of anything like stainless steel?
There isn’t that much precious metal in a small camera. The meme is about encouraging scrappers who steal, things to get scrap metal convinced it’s true and have them destroy the network. So, trying to con some criminals for the good of society.
Stop calling them criminals. They defend our right of privacy.
No, they don’t do that. The meme is a joke to guide them to do that. They steal. Wiring, bricks, car parts. Sometimes from corporates but more often from people or small businesses who dont have security guards. Let’s not glamorise theft of property that is not privacy invasive.
Anyways, i hate being filmed in public.
Me too. I don’t think we we’d to just dismantle them. We need to make the concept illegal.
Since when have laws mattered? The wealthy do whatever they want.
“security researchers”
Which is nonsense. As a criminal, I fucking hate these things.
What did you say? I can’t read that
I see… Another “quick win” makes a little sense then too, sorry.
This won’t last enough, I believe, and may result in permanent distrust even. The person who believed you will eventually realize you lied to them, and why should they trust you in the future?
Meaning, why start from a lie in the first place? A foundation built on a lie eventually collapses, and the people who trusted that lie are often the ones who get hurt the most.
Since you clearly have a message people value, that is, current terrible privacy issues, why not give them a better start, an actual path with a reason to trust you, the purpose and idea, for the long run by carrying the truth instead?

So “it’s just a meme bro!” Is the new “it’s just a joke bro!”?
Only if it’s on a meme community.

Err, this community is microblog memes.
I don’t think it’s that serious dude.
Those are aluminium BTW.
Could be plated copper, unless you have better information - I’ve seen similar components in breaker panels and the like that are plated copper (plated because raw copper likes to corrode and get ugly looking).
I have just worked with aluminum pieces in a machine shop enough to spot em. I would be shocked if they were plated copper and not just aluminum.
/whoosh
Not that it applies here, but hypothetically… one might choose silver for better conductivity and lower heat in high current applications.
i like this series of posts about harvesting precious metals from surveillance devices
