By keeping them alive in old age and illness? There are things worse than death, and I have seen some of these things. If Mitch truly is in a one in a million type coma the only reasons he’s being kept alive are wealth and status, not humanity.
Eutanasia should be a choice. Him being kept alive is what should happen to any person unless they deliberately stated they do not want to.
It does not take wealth to be kept alive, or at least it should not. I guess in the US it is expensive to be kept alive, but I’m pretty sure even there they wouldn’t let you die just because you don’t have money.
In a coma you can’t make such a choice. It’s a minority that have advance directives and often the ones kept alive are those with no one that cares enough about them to act mercifully.
