A French and Saudi-chaired UN conference will be held in June in order to resurrect the idea of a two-state solution

Israel has issued a threat to France and the UK that any moves to recognize a Palestinian state will see Tel Aviv annex parts of the occupied West Bank in response, according to a 26 May report by Haaretz.

Annex as in make it part of Israel instead of the west bank? Would that involve forcibly removing current residents and inserting Israelis into their homes?

If you do that, I’ll do what I planned to do from the beginning but quicker and I’ll blame you for it.

I guess it means “full mask off”. Wait, that’s what they’ve been doing for the past years anyhow. Hmmm.

Also how would that be retaliation against France and the UK? It’s like any tough movie criminal’s favorite trick: I will torture not you, but this person you feel for until you give me what I want!

But seriously, my octogenarian parents would probably gobble it up and blame anybody who recognizes Palestine for being too confrontational, thus making lasting peace impossible. I kid you not.

yeah. it’s fucking sad the amount of zionist rhetoric stuck in folks like that. i mean to be “fair”* they were like 10 when israel “became” a “state.”

        • fair would be that they grew up watching zionists do a genocide and be against it TODAY. but noooooo the “greatest generation” and their boomer kids are straight assholes.

I wonder how much of it is (dis)information warfare. I’m glad these things are coming to broader attention now, but it’s probably been happening right from the start.

Also Germans. They can hardly start accusing Israel of genocide, even today.

Occupying it. Meaning that Palestinians living there could not vote, and were subject to martial law. At the same time Israel administered things such as building permits which means that Israel could “legally” demolish “illegal” buildings.

I highly doubt they’re going to annex anything that’s full of Palestinians, not while the Kahanites are in power they’re way too much into the whole ethno-state thing to do that.

Makes sense, that’s why they are flattening those places with bomb first and/or raiding

Palestinians in Jerusalem are many on a permanent residency visa which doesn’t allow them to vote.

And presumably the terms of the permit allow Israel to kick them out at their heart’s content.

I gotta be honest Jerusalem is a thing I was overlooking but I still don’t think Kahanites would be willing to do that. Some kind of compromise to be able to say that Jerusalem is (fully) Israel, one thing, but the west bank? It’s just land. They don’t want the people living there they’ll either not take it, or take it without the people, no matter how disenfranchised.

I suppose this is more about annexing the illegal settlements. Ones which already have sky-high walls around them.

Yeah, whatever they do it’s going to benefit settlers and not the Palestinians, that’s pretty much guaranteed with the current government.

    So…

If the international community recognizes Palestine, Israel is going to continue it’s genocide and land grabs?

What changes? Besides it becoming clearer that the rest of the world needs to get involved?

Yeah, the West Bank is basically just a collection of little concentration camps at this point.

I really hate Israel but it’s not that bad. You can move from city to city and towns inside the west bank and the life there is pretty vibrant.

The current issues are that the PA is corrupt but elections are banned by Israel. Revocation of work permits in Israel has really hit the economy hard. It’s very annoying to cross the border since the checkpoints are unreliable and sometimes close or slow down a lot. Traffic from Ramallah to Jerusalem on Saturdays can take 3-4 hours.

Settler violence against Palestinians is practically legal and sometimes the Israeli army goes in an destroys commercial stuff. One time they even robbed a jewellery store. It feels like a predator coming to town. Also, Palestinians are tried in military courts but settlers in civil courts even if they live 100m from each other like in Hebron.

It’s bad but it’s faaar from being concentration camps, when you’re in Ramallah you won’t even notice the occupation most days and life is generally good. You’ll eventually hit an issue regarding papers, travel, work, running a business, farming, building and whatnot because of the Israeli government but nothing compared to being in a concentration camp.

Wtf kind if threat is this? They were gonna try doing that anyway. It’s never the oppressor’s fault that they commit genocide, only the victims. Someone unironically said it’s that doctor’s fault her kids died because she chose to have so many. Anything to justify manmade horrors beyond human comprehension. Even a tiny bit of plausible deniabilty is what Isn’treal is trying to squeeze out. Keep the genocide going just a bit longer so Netenyahu can stay in office and not get arrested

I wish fascists would skip to their inevitable end.

Can we start delivering those 2,000lb. bombs that the U.S. gives to Israel one by one, to Netanyahu’s house, by airmail?
