I don’t have many nice things to say about Newsom but let’s not dilute the word fascist into a generic insult eh?

That’s just liberal bullshit, not fascism.

There are plenty of NIMBY democrats as evidence by all the Dems who are treating Newsom as the second coming of Christ and the presumptive 2028 nominee, despite his disgusting practices Vis-à-vis the homeless.

Fascism is a Far Right, Authortarian, and Ultranationalist ideology that combines a militaristic autocracy, forcible suppression of dissent, and a racist social order. By using the term as if it means ‘things we hate’, then it waters down the actual definition and gives MAGAts who constantly try to turn the word around on us ammunition.

Call it gross, call it late stage capitalism, call it vile, disgusting, cruel, short sighted. Call it sweeping the problem under the rug, call out liberals for supporting it. All of those things are true. It’s not fascism though.

Ya. Honestly, I’m getting pretty close to being done with Lemmy at this point. The way to fight extremism is not with different extremism. Between the hyper purity test Leftists, and the AI=evil absolutists, it feels like there’s never any room for constructive discussion anymore. If I even ask a clarifying question about someone’s views, even one that I could potentially be swayed towards, the response always comes back as some variation of “You’re one of them aren’t you!”

Newsom isn’t great but he’s leagues ahead of the small fingered vulgarian. I’m not going to let the perfect be the enemy of the good. He’s going to get my vote if he runs.

“He’s not perfect” is such a weird way to describe someone whose policies are literally killing people just in his home state. Where and when are we going to draw the line on this shit?

        Are you a liberal?

If not, why wouldn’t you throw your support behind a leftist or progressive candidate at least until the primaries are over? I am 100% for not letting perfect be the enemy of the good, but I am also against letting mediocrity be the enemy of the good.

Because the next step is more important that the perfect step. Sander’s and people like him can’t win right now. I want to support progress and sometimes that means smaller steps.

Unless someone better takes the place first. If newsom’s all we get then that’s what I’ll vote for because of how our voting system works, but I have faith that a good quality primary will bring a better candidate to the limelight
