I mean frankly, what the fuck are the american people even doing? I mean the Germans had the argument of actually being made criminals for belonging to a different party within half a year of the Austrian painter taking power.

Its easier to get away with things if you let the avg person keep on living with out interfering with them.

For the majority of Americans there no direct effect on their day to day life. There secondary effects and indirect effects on all of us, but because they arnt physically harmful, directly viewable or caused by something with in the immediate region where they live.

People can and will just ignore them. Its been like that though of all of human history.

What does the present care for? Their food, water and warmth. What the king does many miles away does not concern the present in any way that matters.

So the present ignores it, till it’s too late.

I dunno, seems like a certifiable bunch of people have been trying to do something about this “just one person” this past year and a half.

It absolutely isn’t “just one person” either, this is the entire system. The rot is just laid so bare with this one fucking guy.

Oh the rot was always there, but our tolerance of Trumplethinskin is amazing honestly. Did he expose the rot or simply strip away all the coating to allow the rot to spread to the outside.

Boy, Biden really lives rent-free in Trump’s head.

Most people, if they even thought of putting something like that up, would be worried that they would be branding themselves as a desperate loser.

Donald Trump, to me at least, seems like a very simple person. I have found that I can predict a lot of what he’ll do by just keeping in mind that he’s an egotistical simpleton who wants people to worship him. He doesn’t care about anybody but himself, and he doesn’t think very far into the future. But he gets hung up on the past a lot.

Biden beat him. There was a popularity contest, and America picked Biden. Biden has never lost to Trump, except one debate that most people forgot about already. That’s something that Trump will never be able to change.

Trump probably thinks of the shooter as a loser who couldn’t even hit what he was aiming at. If anything, the shooting made Trump more popular. Trump won and the shooter lost.

          Here’s another thing about Trump.

Trump was in New York real estate and construction from the start. There’s no way to do that without dealing with the Mafia.

Any smart boss is going to take one look at Donnie and step away. A boss doesn’t want to be around a loudmouth who can’t be trusted to keep his mouth shut.

So the mobsters Donnie interacted with were the low level goons the bosses could throw under the bus if anything went wrong.

All of Donnie’s schemes are crude because that’s what he thinks are clever schemes. His smartest mentor, Roy Cohn, died too soon to teach Donnie how to actually act like a winner.

Cohn also probably couldn’t and wouldn’t. Cohn was great at what he did, he died deeply in debt to the federal government just like he wanted. But Cohn had intelligence that while subservient to the myriad chips on his shoulder, was real. Cohn could actually play people off each other and make people who hated him like him. And most of all Cohn could resist the urge to be in the spotlight if he even felt it at all. He had the cunning you only get when you have had to hide. And that’s how he was able to get what may very well be the closest person he ever had to a real romantic partner, Joe McCarthy, to be the face of the red and lavender scares and then to take the fall when the backlash came.

You can’t make a rich, privileged in every way, golden boy narcissist into Roy Cohn. Roy Cohn had distress tolerance and could use it when he needed to.

Think they’ll last 50 more years? Trump is single-handedly causing its collapse.

I mean, the 90s were kind of nice in the USA. There was a real optimism for the future. We were gonna solve racism, we were gonna democratize information, we were going to judge everyone on the content of their character. Technology was always going to improve. We were gonna cure cancer, for God’s sake.

Then Social Media happened in the 2000s. So much for that…

            Laughs in literalist:
“There was a point in recent history that a significant portion of the population, with enough sampling from ethnic subgroups, had decent opportunity to eke out a comfortable living. Those days that burn fresh in memory, are seemingly gone.”

              so there’s a line that’s defines “significant?”

because yeah. 40 years ago houses were affordable. but govs were still fire bombing city blocks in philly because some brown people upset them.

Really bad, but the difference is the volume and scale. US government oppressing ethnic minorities is a horrible act, but not a new one. US government deliberately oppressing a large fraction of the majority is.

Doesn’t make it better or worse, but it is a marked shift

right. thats my point. there isn’t a scale such as a binary, thus it has never been a “good” (as in healthy) nation, in its black and white (again a binary) form.

i’m just trying to push a rhetoric that stops folks from pining for day bygone that were better. they have never been better, just different

His Afghanistan Disaster… was among the most humiliating events in American History, and resulted in the murder of 13 brave American Servicemembers

13 American soldiers have have died in the totally well thought out, well executed, well justified Iran war, too. Kind of ironic if you ask me
